At the end of the day, I’m grateful and proud to be an American.

Yes, our country has some things to work out, but there is always hope for the future.

I’ve found new meaning in this verse:

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Isaiah 9:6

I can’t give you theological insight to this verse, but the phrase “the government will be on his shoulders” keeps coming back to me. We can’t dismiss our civic responsibilities, but I do believe that ultimately everything is in God’s hands – and thank goodness.

I’m indebted to the men and women who defend(ed) our country. I’m grateful for those who sacrificed their lives in the name of freedom.

I give thanks for our nation and I pray for its future.
